WEST HARTFORD — - More than 100 students and staff members at St. Timothy's Middle School were taken to area hospitals Friday after they were exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide discharged by a faulty boiler.

Mike Yacovino, West Hartford's Fire Battalion Chief, said 91 students and 14 staff members were sent to hospitals to be evaluated. Students not sent for medical evaluation to the hospital were taken away from the school by school bus and parents.

Firefighters responded to a report of a noxious odor at the school around 11 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they quickly discovered unsafe levels of carbon monoxide and evacuated the school, Yacovino said.

Yacovino said firefighters shut off the boiler. The school moved its graduation ceremonies Friday night to Northwest Catholic High School.
