North Las Vegas family succumbs to carbon monoxide
kvbc.com - February 15, 2008

The North Las Vegas Fire Department says the high winds from a few days ago could have the been reason a family of five ended up at UMC early Friday morning.

Firefighters say they received a man who appeared to be in what they describe as an "altered state of consciousness." When they arrived, that man's entire family was passed out.

Firefighters took the family to the hospital then tested the home for carbon monoxide gas.

"They found out it was 900 parts per million saturation in that home of carbon monoxide," Captain Cedric Williams with North Las Vegas Fire Department said. "To put that on the level for you, you could actually die from 50 parts per million if you're in that home long enough"

The fire department says it appears a piece of the home's roof peeled back and covered a heating vent, forcing carbon monoxide into the home. The entire family was treated and released from the hospital.
