In Daytona Beach, an 88-year-old man is dead and an 81-year-old woman is in a coma because of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Paramedics entered the home on Sept. 17, and found Yolanda Bruno overcome by fumes. Her significant other, Frank Volpe, had already died.
Officials believe Volpe mistakenly left the car running in the garage and the fumes saturated their home.
Bruno is now at Halifax Medical Center with her sons by her side. They said Volpe, the man they thought of as their stepfather, was in the early stages of dementia.
The sons are hoping others will take a lesson from his tragedy by putting carbon monoxide monitors their home.
